Turkey, Jews and Israel - From the Holocaust to Gaza - Reflections on the Past/Prospects for the Future

Following the Mavi Marmara incident, Turkey broke diplomatic relations with Israel.  Although prospects for rapprochement between Turkey and Israel seemed promising, the Gaza conflict dimmed the prospects for the reinstatement of relations.  How the Jewish community and Israel deal with Turkey, which rescued Jews during the Inquisition and whose diplomats heroically saved Jews during the Holocaust, is a matter of urgency.  What is the status of Turkish-Israel relations with prospects for the future?

Dr. Mark Meirowitz is Assistant Professor at SUNY Maritime College.  He holds a doctorate in Political Science and also is a business lawyer.  He has written and lectured extensively on Turkish Foreign Policy. Turkish-US Relations and Turkish-Israeli Relations.  He has taught at a Turkish University, is a member of the Advisory Board of the American Turkish Council and is a member of the Board (and Board Secretary) of theTurkish American Chamber of Commerce.  He is writing a book on Turkish Foreign Policy.
